In the North of Portugal, the region of Barroso is at the center of the European Union-sponsored extractive desires. Over the past five years, most of its territory has been allocated for mining prospecting or licensing. The planned Barroso mine is among the most significant extractive efforts.
Montanha Invertida unpacks the implementation and operation of this planned mine, unfolding its immediate implications and lasting aftermath. Navigating across air and ground, it takes the form of a video and an exhibition that shed light on the devastating consequences expected to be borne by the collective living practices of Covas do Barroso and beyond.
